The Alexandria First International Book Fair

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina started to prepare for the first Alexandria International Book Fair, which will be held on the occasion of declaring Alexandria as the World Book Capital City for the year 2002, by the International Publishers Association (IPA) as proposed by Mr. Ibrahim El-Moallem, chairman of the Arab Publishers"" Association.

The Library invited Egyptian, Arab, & international publishers to participate in the Book Fair. Many parallel cultural activities will take place during the period of the Fair.

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library, announced that the Book Fair will host a number of eminent cultural figures & thinkers to discuss their views and visions during the period of the Fair and sign their new books for the public. Publishers will be asked to display their publications in the booths specially assigned for them.

The Alexandria International Book Fair is expected to last for two week, starting on 24th July 2002. The Book Fair and its parallel activities will be freely accessible for the public with no entry fees.
