Serageldin Participates in Series of Debates on Democratic Security at the Council of Europe

Invited by the Council of Europe, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the BA, inaugurated a new series of debates on democratic security at the Council’s headquarters in Strasbourg, France.
Dr. Serageldin gave a speech titled “'Countering Radicalization and Extremism: promoting mutual knowledge, understanding, tolerance, and respect for diversity” presenting his vision of democratic security and its components. Important discussions ensued between Dr. Serageldin and the participants where they exchanged opinions on how to fight extremism inside and outside Europe.
Dr. Serageldin also held a TV interview with the Council of Europe TV journalist where he explained that democratic peace and security can be achieved by encouraging all of society, especially youths, to take part in planning the future. He added that people should be encouraged to pay more attention to the poor and marginalized masses, especially during economic crises. He also stressed the importance of promoting historical incidents that prove that all nations contributed to advancing human civilization without excluding anyone.
The Council of Europe is an intergovernmental organization working to promote democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The Council includes 47 European member states.
