Alexandria—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Internet Archive center has completed indexing the latest version of the Web archive. Indexing of the archive pages was necessary to enable searching the new collection. The entire collection from 1996-2006 is now available and searchable at www.archive.bibalex.org through the Archive's Wayback Machine.
Recently, the Internet Archive center had completed the installation of high density storage Petabox machines for the new collection, accommodating 1.5 Petabytes of data. The machines were assembled in San Francisco and are currently holding the web collection of 1996-2006 in addition to 25,000 digitized books acquired through the Open Content Alliance (OCA) consortium, 25,000 digitized books from the Library’s Digital Assets Repository (DAR), 2000 hours of Egyptian and US television broadcast, and 1000 archival films. Machines for future collections will be designed and manufactured locally at BA. The BA’s Internet Archive center is aiming to increase the collection and stay up-to-date with the latest technology.
