Posted on

Alexandria— The BA launched the translation of the book entitled "African Art: World Bank Collection" by Alexander Marc and translated by Kassem Abdo Kassem, on the occasion of the fourth Alexandrina International Book Fair.

The book is a group of essays and pictures, and is the first to be dedicated to the arts collection in the World Bank (WB). The book features the WB African art collection, including textiles, statues, pottery, drawings, and door locks and coins, representing every day life. The collection emphasizes the integration between the art and life in Africa. The collection is the product of African artists from different parts of the continent reflecting the richness and diversity of cultures in Africa, and embodies religious beliefs, life style, emotions and views of African artists.

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, stated that art is an integral part of the structure of a society and helps identify the identity and culture of a certain community. Culture is also crucial to development, ignoring the cultural aspect destroys the development process in any nation.
