Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm,

Fridays from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm,

and Saturdays from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.

For children (6–11 year olds) and young people (12–16 year olds):

Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm,

Fridays from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm,

and Saturdays from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.

For the visually impaired accessing Taha Hussein Library:

Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

and Saturdays from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.

Fridays are off.

For school visits:

Sunday through Thursday: 9:00–11:00 am.

During Ramadan:

Saturday through Thursday: 10:00 am–2:00 pm.

Visitors may access all library resources and join guided tours. This ticket also includes access to Permanent Exhibitions, as well as Temporary Exhibitions.

Note: Admission to the Taha Hussein Library for the visually impaired is free.

Admission to the Planetarium

An exclusive ticket for Planetarium shows, the Science Museum and ALEXploratorium may be purchased at the entrance of the Planetarium. Ticket rate is determined by the Planetarium show schedule.


Guidelines for Bibliotheca Alexandrina Visitors

  • Admission to the Main Reading Area is restricted to visitors aged 16 and above.

  • Children under 6 years are not permitted within the Library. An on-site facility (behind the Conference Center) is offered to kindergartners, provided that either of their parents accompanies them.

  • Youth aged 6–16 years are not permitted entry into the Main Reading Area, unless as part of a guided tour.

  • The Children’s Library and the Young People’s Library are open to the public (6–16 year olds) all year round, but are accessible by members only during summer and mid-year vacations. During those periods, ticket holders may be introduced to the services provided by the two libraries through a brief guided tour offered at different hours throughout the day.

  • Bags and other items are to be deposited at the Lockers Area next to the Ticket Booth, but visitors may keep their wallet with them inside the Library, including the BA Main Entrance, Bookshop, Museums, Exhibitions, and Planetarium Science Center (PSC).

  • Clothes, food, and beverages are not allowed inside the Lockers.

  • Smoking, eating, and, drinking are not allowed indoors at any area of the Library.

  • Personal books are not allowed inside the Library.

  • Photography is allowed everywhere inside the Library, except within a number of specified Exhibitions and Museums.
  • Mobile phones are to be turned off or switched to silent mode.Violators will be subject to a EGP 10 fine.

  • The Library ticket includes admission to the Permanent Exhibitions, the Sadat Museum, and the BA Culturama. The admission tickets required for visiting the Antiquities Museum or the Manuscript Museum are purchased separately from the ticket booth.

  • Admission to the Planetarium Science Center (PSC) requires a separate ticket (available for purchase at the PSC entrance).
