The BA Sustainable Development Studies, Youth Capacity Building, and African Relations Support Program – in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Cairo, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries – organizes a science diplomacy workshop entitled “Climate Change in the Broader Mediterranean Area.” It is held on 9 and 10 October 2022, at 10:00 am, in the BACC Delegates Hall.

The workshop hosts a group of international scientists and experts from Egypt, Italy, and Portugal to discuss the impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean region.

This workshop tackles the latest research in the field of climate change, its simulation models, and the dynamic studies of the climate system and their future projections. It also highlights the research studies that examine the effects of climate change on the rising sea levels in the Mediterranean and their impact on coastal cities, as well as its effects on agriculture and crop productivity. Additionally, the workshop includes an exhibition of scientific posters presented by young researchers, which showcase their research in this particular field.

It is worth mentioning that the Mediterranean is one of the most severely affected regions by climate change and its accompanying adverse environmental phenomena. In this respect, the BA is keen to identify the latest scientific studies and predictions to help face this challenge and its negative consequences.
