In 2016, the nucleus of the Serageldin Institute for Multidisciplinary Advanced Research, “SIMAR,” was established, and the mission was to conduct quantitative analysis and modeling in different multidisciplinary areas.

The multidisciplinary research at SIMAR aims to provide meaningful diagnoses and policy prescriptions across various sectors, including poverty, education, health, measurement quality, food security, democracy, climate change, population, attitude surveys, household analysis, etc.

The Institute is comprised of experienced researchers skilled in quantitative techniques, including econometrics, statistics, modeling, data mining, and machine learning.

Our Objectives:

  • Conduct multidisciplinary quantitative research and analysis utilizing econometric techniques, modeling, and machine learning to investigate and model economic and social phenomena.
  • Publish the research papers in high-ranked international peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Monitor and analyze current economic, environmental, and societal trends in the local, regional, and global arena, examining and inspecting their most important effects and implications on the different socioeconomic factors of the Egyptian economy.
  • Hold seminars with prominent economists and specialists to analyze current socioeconomic events at the local and regional levels and support the SIMAR research team.
  • Organize international scientific conferences to discuss the most imperative economic issues in the local, regional, and global arenas.
  • Collaborate with local and international organizations, research centers, and universities to conduct joint research.
  • Provide workshops for the interested public, especially graduates and postgraduates, to provide participants with practical data analysis skills, research experience, and hands-on training on using the High-Performance Computing (HPC) capabilities provided to researchers by the International School of Information Science (ISIS).
  • Provide internships to equip graduates and postgraduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in data analysis, economic research, and related fields through a comprehensive training program at our Institute.

Collaborations and Partnerships:

  1. Collaboration with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
  2. Collaboration with the National Water Research Institute.
  3. Collaboration with the (CAPMAS).
  4. In collaboration with the Economic Research Forum (ERF) in data cleansing, we signed an MOU with the ERF in 2019.
  5. Collaboration with the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
